UK’s ‘first’ renewable energy business park opens

The UK’s first ‘zero-energy cost’ business park, Armstrong Point, has been officially opened in Wigan, Greater Manchester.In this video we demonstrate three different types of home made electricity wind generator.

Baroness Hanham, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and the minister responsible for the European Regional Development Fund (which helped fund the project), opened the 2.7 million development in Wigan, Greater Manchester, describing it as “exciting and innovative”.

She added: “Armstrong Point harnesses one very important priority, carbon emissions, while tackling another by supporting local businesses.”

All of the business units have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A+ and hold a BRE Environmental Assessment Method Outstanding rating.

David Hunt, a director with Eco Environments, said: “We worked closely with Armstrong Properties… to ensure not only that the scheme was able to make use of the very best renewable energy technologies but also that it was delivered on time and to budget.

“We are confident that this will be the first of many similar projects like this across the UK as organisations increasingly put renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives at the centre of their business strategy.”

The first tenants have already moved into the nine-unit development.

Dave Armstrong of Armstrong Properties added: “We are delighted by the level of interest our development has generated to date. Our park offers the latest renewable energy technologies to tenants and is the first zero-energy cost business park in the UK.”

Lord Peter Smith, Leader of Wigan Council, also welcomed the opening of the new development, saying: “The history of Wigan is built on energy but we are moving into a different era with scarcer resources. We have aspirations for a low-carbon future and this development is an excellent part of that.”

The park created 55 construction jobs during development and will see a further 65 permanent jobs become available once in operation.

A Horizon Wind advertisement featured Dorion Reeve Dave Harris expounding on the virtues of Greenwich Lake Wind Farm. The message conveyed by Reeve Harris is that industrial wind turbine projects are all positive; and, by association, concerns expressed in Thunder Bay are unfounded, based on experience.

For the casual reader, these ads are an endorsement for Horizon Wind to build turbines on the Nor’Wester Mountains. To better informed citizens, Reeve Harris’ comments, paid or unpaid, as an outside municipal leader, are rude, inappropriate, and ignorant of the dramatically different locations.
