Solar supporters say that the industry won’t need subsidies forever but that incentives such as the 30 percent tax credit on the price of solar panels are essential to get it established and competing with traditional power sources.
In addition to the tax credits, utilities give homeowners with rooftop solar panels full retail credit for the electricity they send to the grid. However, utilities want to cut that credit because they say it is more expensive than buying power on the market from power plants. Homeowners with solar — or those considering adding the panels — don’t want the payments for power they contribute to the utility grid to drop.

And realizing that all-electric vehicles can't travel long distances - at least not until a recharging infrastructure is built - there's an optional range extender: a two-cylinder gasoline powered engine that effectively makes the i3 a plug-in hybrid.
Instead of adapting older technology, BMW engineered this vehicle from the ground up. BMW 4-Series
BMW executives said here at the global unveiling of the newest coupe
it gets the “4” designation as part of a move to sedans having
odd-numbers (3-, 5- & 7-Series) and coupes even (4, 6, 8 etc.).
Obviously, there is some alignment in order going forward — current 1-Series vehicles have two doors and the 6-Series Grand Coupe has four.
Despite this confusion, the 4-Series is a significant addition to the line and we can expect a convertible to come also designated a 4-Series. While sharing much with the current 3-Series sedan, most of the common componentry is out of sight.
What you do see is significantly different and attractive. The 2014 4-Series Coupe is within a couple of millimetres of the sedan in length and wheelbase, but lower and a lot wider.
The long hood, short deck and sloping glass fore and aft of BWM coupes remains. The widest point of this new BMW coupe is at the rear wheels, not the door handles as is common industry practice.
The track is wider both front and rear and the suspension lowered. The new coupe boasts a perfect 50/50- weight distribution and the lowest center of gravity of any BMW product.
The result is a purposeful stance and a promise of driving dynamics backed up by unique suspension and other tuning upgrades. The 2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe will come to Canada this fall in 428i and 435i guise.
The duo will have the same twin-turbo four and six-cylinder engines as their four-door counterparts and both will be available with an updated version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Parking lots get summer facelift
Structural improvements are being made across campus, from major
renovations like Gilbert Hall’s to smaller improvements like better parking lot lighting.
According the NIU’s website, there are 64 major buildings on the main NIU campus in DeKalb. The majority of those buildings are undergoing improvements, much of which is part of the Vision 2020 Initiative set forth by NIU’s former president, John Peters.
One of the biggest improvements being made on campus is the renovation of Gilbert Hall. Palian said roofs are being improved around campus, too.
“They’re actually recycling the reusable parts from other buildings to improve roofs on buildings that really need it,” Palian said.
The Neptune Residence Hall roof will be repaired with slate salvaged from Gilbert Hall’s renovation. "Under the terms of the deal, about 60 percent of the market share in the EU could be guaranteed for Chinese solar panel exporters," said Chen.

Skoda Octavia vRS diesel
Fast, fun, practical and cheap to run; if anything can live up to
this 'all things to all drivers' claim, it's the 2013 Skoda Octavia vRS
diesel.
Its 181bhp diesel engine gives a 0-62mph time of 8.1 seconds, yet it can still average an official average of 61.4mpg. Better still, it's available in both hatchback and estate body shapes, and it undercuts the rival VW Golf GTD 5dr by a sizeable 2680.
The diesel vRS certainly gets the 'fun' bit right. The steering is quicker than in more humdrum Octavias, so you need to apply less lock to prompt the nose of the car to tuck itself into bends. Even with the Driving Mode Selector set to Normal the steering weights up consistently as you turn in; switch to Sport and it becomes heavier to provide extra reassurance.
Attack a corner and there's a slight delay between the front of the car reacting and the rear following suit, although for such a big car with a hefty rear overhang, body movement is pretty well controlled. There's plenty of grip, too, with the front wheels running wide of your intended line only when you're cornering close to the car's limits.
The 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine is more of a mixed bag. It's properly strong through the mid-range, giving the vRS crushing overtaking ability – even in the high gears. This impressive flexibility makes the Octavia feel even faster than its 0-62mph time suggests.
However, while the engine might be efficient, it's also rather noisy. Push the revs beyond 3000rpm, and you're treated to a lot of diesel clatter that isn't at all sporty in tone.When shopping for camping lamps, a viable and useful option is the Solar lamps for camping. Road noise adds to the din – especially over coarse surfaces.
Then there's the ride. The vRS has more a more sophisticated rear suspension set-up than other Octavia's, but due to stiffer shock absorbers and a lower ride height (plus the optional 18-inch alloys fitted to our test car), you're tossed around a lot more on bumpy roads.
It's never horrendously firm or crashy, but considering this is a supposed to be a hot hatch that offers a mixed variety of talents, we're surprised it isn't a bit more supple.
Skoda's vRS models have always been a lesson in understatement, so it's no surprise the cabin in this new version isn't much different from the regular Octavia's.
