While he is working on a project all about hope, artist John-Paul Pochin was feeling pretty hopeless earlier this week.
He was working on the finishing touches to one of his three Light Nelson projects,A China Solar Led Lights is an obvious application given the growing interest in “green” systems. The Last Tree, featuring a bicycle whose pedals light up the LED lights of a tree.
But when the Nelson Mail visited on Monday, the pedals did not power anything, because he had accidentally dropped a wire onto one of the circuit boards, destroying one of the tiny computers and a few of the circuit boards essential for the project.
It would be like a painter standing on his paintbrush and easel, days before his work is due to be displayed.
Mr Pochin had until tonight, the opening of the inaugural Light Nelson festival, to repair the circuitry and finish the project, and then complete another he is also entering which so far has only existed in computer simulations.
So began a week of stress and sleepless nights. Last night the project was finally working, but interference from a generator was still causing problems.
The festival, partially funded by the Nelson City Council events marketing and development programme, features exhibitions at the Queen's Gardens in conjunction with light displays at the Nelson School of Music and the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology,When shopping for camping lamps, a viable and useful option is the Solar lamps for camping. opening tonight and running until Sunday.
Fortunately for Mr Pochin, a founding member of the Light Nelson Artist Collective, he can rely on other members of the collective to work through the details of the event while he stresses over his own contributions.
The collective is part of Mr Pochin's move away from a career in science, and into the arts.Energy efficient High Quality Solar street lighting strip kits bring an urban glow to your bar that looks incredible.
Although he studied physics, electronics and computing at university, Mr Pochin said he had always loved art,After searching around the Lights section of this forum, I've come across two main suppliers for Wholesale HID XENON Kits. and "tinkering".
"I was always pulling my mum's record player apart and the radio apart and working out how things work."
After leaving university for a job in the computer industry, he gave that career up a decade ago when he was asked to move to Las Vegas, starting his own photography business, John-Paul Pochin Photography.
He also got involved in the Nelson's arts scene, using his technical background to create works of art using high-tech tools.Finding China High Quality solar bulb for outdoor applications such as your patio, yard or porch can be a challenge.
He hoped the event would attract others on the fringes of the art world. "A bit like me, I wouldn't have considered myself an artist, I would say I come from a technical background."
This year he has three projects in the festival. The Last Tree consists of a tree covered in LED lights, powered by a stationary bicycle.
People are invited to pedal the bicycle to keep the lights shining and the tree "alive".
A passionate advocate for cycling, Mr Pochin said he got the idea for the project when watching the recent film adaptation of Dr Seuss' story The Lorax with his daughter. More information about the program is available on the web site at www.hmhid.com.
