“It seems like with our other ambulances a lot of stuff is wearing out a lot quicker. Hopefully with a medium duty truck,Wide selection of Solar street light in Delta state, torches, string lights and more. maybe we’ll be getting a little more life,We have a great selection of blown glass backyard solar landscape lights and daytime running lights.” he said. “It will be able to take the punishment that we put it through, and hopefully that will keep our maintenance costs a little lower.”
The department responded to a record number of calls last year, breaking the 2,300 mark for the first time with 2,332 runs, including 2,083 rescue calls – the second straight year of more than 2,000 squad runs.
Fire call numbers have remained somewhat constant in recent years, but rescue squad calls have nearly doubled in the last 20 years.
More than half the department’s 2,253 patient contacts in 2012 were people age 55 or older, and experts believe that an aging population will continue to drive up call numbers.
Bernt last summer told city council members that it was time to start looking at a more durable ambulance that can withstand the increasing rigors, and the city received bids for the larger ambulance last August, awarding the low bid of $228,782 to Fire Guard of Omaha.
Smaller coach ambulances cost in the $140,000 range, Bernt said, but their life expectancy ranges from 13 to 15 years – the 1998 Ford put in 15 years of service. The medium duty ambulance, on the other hand, is expected to last longer,How to change your dash lights to residential lighting products this is how I have done mine. and handle winter road conditions better.
“We’re hoping to maybe get 20 years out of these,” Bernt said. “Getting around in the snow is probably one of the biggest concerns, and getting a longer life out of it. ... It’s more heavy duty and able to take the punishment that we really go through, and maintenance costs hopefully will stay down.”
The new rig follows industry trends toward larger ambulances in places like Omaha and Papillion, he added.
Bernt said his paramedics are finding it easier to move around when caring for patients in the larger ambulance box. Not much longer than the other ambulances, it is noticeably taller.
“There’s more head room. I can almost stand up in it,” Bernt said. “In the other ones I always had to bend down,Soli-lite Solar-LED lighting Co., Ltd is the professional manufacturer specializing in all kinds of solar powered LED lighting products. so this has a little bit more space.”
The truck has a backup camera on it so the driver can see what’s behind him, a lot more LED lighting than older units,Use our High Quality Solar systems products to replace traditional halogen and incandescent spot lights in track lighting. and more electronics.
“It has a GPS on it,” Bernt said, “so we can actually plug in an address and it will tell you where to go.
“It has a lot more lighting on the doors, so when the doors are open traffic can see those lights and see that the door’s open,” he said.
The truck also has more compartment space than older models. Most of the compartments are accessible from outside or inside the unit.
In the future Bernt would like his apparatus to be equipped with mobile data terminals, similar to what many of the Fremont Police Department cruisers have. The terminals allow dispatchers to quickly send specific information to responders, and reduce duplication of paperwork following calls.
