A special delivery

Life inside the Jackson County School’s Multiple Disabilities Unit at Hollywood Elementary School is anything but calm. 

Students that spend their time learning there are always busy, discovering something new and fresh each day they come to class. 

“There are no dull moments here,” teacher Alicia Young said. “But that is how all of us enjoy it.”Young and the other aids enjoy seeing the smiling, loving faces of the students.“The kids here are loving and very special to us,” said Young. 

Young and the other aids go out of their way to make sure everything is taken care of for the students each day.Our selection of solar garden light includes models and styles perfect for any taste and budget. Whether it’s helping them with personal needs or assisting them with cleanups at their learning stations, the workers stay on their toes to make sure everything is taken care of. 

And every once in a while the teachers look forward to the blessings that come there way, not only for the classroom, but also for the children. 

“It’s a great feeling to know that people in the community care about our kids,” said Kim Ikard, classroom aid. 

A few weeks ago, the Multiple Disabilities Unit had an immediate need for a dryer unit. Upon learning the need, Jackson County Special Education Coordinator Robert Downey approached The Home Depot to assist with the replacement unit. 

“I took a step of faith and reached out to the community to see if we could get anything to assist the program,” said Downey. 

After that the classroom aids and Young, all extremely thankful for the dryer, though the process to upgrading their equipment was finished for the time. 

“The washing machine we had was around 25 years old. It was spitting water out the top of the unit, sometimes not working as well as we wanted it to, but we made do.” 

But members of the Scottsboro First National Bank Branch weren’t finished blessing the program. 

“We read the article in the local newspaper and saw that the unit also had another need for a new washing machine,” said Randy Giles,Your specialists when it comes to the sales and service of Antique lamp. President and CEO of FNB. “We read that the workers here were sometimes taking clothing and towels home to wash. It really spoke to us and we wanted to step up and help out.” 

Last week, the matching washer to the new dryer was ordered and later delivered to the classroom., 

“It was such a shock to us,Selecting the right solar panel cells for your solar power system is crucial.” said Young. “When we heard that someone else in town was going to provide us with not only a new washing machine but the matching unit to our dryer, we were all humbled and extremely thankful.”

“We are now able to wash more loads at a time than we did with our old unit,” said Young. “No longer are we having to take clothes and towels home. Having both units replaced has really helped us out as a classroom.” 

Giles said the donation was something FNB was happy and proud to do.

As for the children, having a new means of keeping the classroom clean frees up the teachers for more time to spend with them. 

Learning is at it’s own pace in the Multiple Disabilities Unit. Kids learn about all the academic things they need to know, like the days of the week and months of year. There’s also a word wall to share special words they need to be familiar with and posters relating to history, science and English.
